Fort Meade Cac Office - FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. -- Beginning Nov. 5, visitors to Fort Meade will only need to show a Common Access Card or military ID to enter the installation. Ministry of Defense stickers on privately owned vehicles will no longer be required.
The move comes as a result of a policy change at the Department level which recommended that the use of the sticker system be eliminated. The new policy, which was first announced in late September, included an option that allowed local commanders to continue with the sticker system if they wanted to. Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linington, commander of the Army District of Washington, decided to follow recommendations to eliminate the policy for installations in the Capital Region.

"While we carefully consider ways to improve service and efficiency, we saw the elimination of the sticker program as a cost-saving measure that will in no way impact our security concerns."
A common access card is an identity card issued to employees of the Ministry of Defense and sometimes to government contractors. Military ID includes ID cards issued to active military, reserve or National Guard members, and pensioner ID cards.
Drivers who qualify for decals who do not currently have decals can still register at the Fort Meade Visitor Control Center on Reece Road and receive decals through October 31, 2011. After the end of October, 31st decals will no longer be issued.
"You don't have to remove the decals from your vehicle," said George Cartagena, supervisor of the Visitor Control Center. "If you decide to remove them, please wait until November 5th to do so."

As before, drivers who do not have a CAC, military ID can still obtain a day pass using the main gate located at Reece Road and MD Hwy 175. Visitors or performers who require more frequent access must be sponsored by an individual or organization and registered at the Gate Control Center as before.
All vehicles driven into Fort Meade must continue to be properly licensed, registered and insured in accordance with state and local laws. Those entering the venue are subject to a 100 percent ID check, and all vehicles continue to be screened by security personnel.
"I see the elimination of the decal as one more measure we can take to help our neighbors in the community understand that they are welcome at Fort Meade," Rothstein said. “We have a lot of events and programs that are open to the public and you don't need a special sticker to get involved.” 39°6′25″N 76°44′35″W / 39.10694°N 76.74306 °W / 39.10694; -76.74306 Coordinates: 39 ° 6'25 "N 76 ° 44'35" W / 39.10694 ° N 76.74306 ° W / 39.10694; -76.74306
