WE. The Army Strings, a premier ensemble of the United States Armed Forces, provide the musical backdrop for many of the nation's most notable events. Their mission is to serve as musical ambassadors for high-level military and government events at home and abroad, as well as concerts for public audiences. WE. The Army Strolling Strings is one of the musical ensembles most requested by the military leadership of our country. Since its inception during the Eisenhower administration, the group has provided musical entertainment at the White House for every president. Duties include acting for the US Department of Defense. The Capitol, the Supreme Court, kings, queens and heads of state of countries around the world. The Strolling Strings offers the audience the unique perspective of standing among the musicians as they elegantly move around the venue playing their instruments. The Strolling Strings offers a wide variety of memorized repertoire including patriotic, classical, international, jazz, Broadway, bluegrass and exclusive musical arrangements for special guests and events.

Auditions will be held at Brucker Hall, home of the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" at 400 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306.

This audition will have an optional recorded preview. The U.S. Army will pay travel expenses for invited civilian candidates who pass the pretest of this audition pending enlistment qualifications and funding approval. Candidates whose recordings do not pass the preview round, or choose not to do one, will still be able to participate in the preview round on April 24. The audition will include the performance of prepared excerpts and sight reading. Applicants who pass the preliminary test will be invited to a semi-final and a final round on April 25.

Only men and women of exceptional character and drive will become officers in the US Army. The officers are the heads of the army. Those charged with making important decisions in stressful situations are entrusted with the safety of the men and women under their command. Being an officer in the US Army will not only serve as a point of pride for you during your military service, but will also serve you well in a civilian career. Employers place great value on the discipline and leadership skills that the Army fosters in its Soldiers. Army officers are often considered prime candidates for senior management and positions. From leaders of industry to presidents of the United States, many began their careers as military officers.

Starting pay is that of an O-1/Second Lieutenant ($43,823 per year, plus housing allowance). Additional military benefits include medical and dental care for you and your family; tax-free housing benefit based on location; and 30 days of paid vacation each year. All applicants must meet the requirements to become an officer in the United States Army. Candidates without prior military service who are accepted will be required to attend Basic Combat Training, Officer Candidate School, and the Basic Officer Leadership Course. Candidates with prior military service who are accepted will only be required to attend Officer Candidate School and the Basic Officer Leadership Course. After completing Officer Candidate School requirements, candidates are commissioned and earn the gold bars of a second lieutenant in the US Army.

Auditions are usually held once a year and are by invitation only. Civilian candidates invited to audition will also be asked to contact a local Army recruiter to ensure they can register and begin the Officer Candidate School application process .

The live audition is a two-day process. On the first day, candidates will audition with their main instrument or voice. Candidates will be asked to choose two contrasting works or movements that best represent their performance. Candidates will also take a series of music theory tests and auditions. These tests will include: harmonic analysis, arrangement for quintet or chamber ensemble, interval and chord recognition, error detection, sight singing, melodic dictation and definition of musical terms.

On the second day, candidates will conduct concert band pieces from a list provided as well as a selection given to the candidates the previous day. In addition, they will perform three works selected with The U.S. US Army Chorus (TTBB) or Soldiers' Chorus (SATB) Army Field Band. Finally, candidates will undergo an interview with a panel of senior officers and non-commissioned officers.

Acceptance of a position requires a minimum of three years of active service in the United States military. Anyone offered a position is expected to meet the standards required to pass Basic Combat Training and Officer Candidate School. Army Sgt. Major Víctor Cenales, on the left, and Sgt.
